Where it all began...
Unlike most people who fell in love with the breed from the movie 'Turner and Hooch.' I fell in love with my next door neighbours puppy.
I had long admired the Bullmastiff, but after seeing this gorgeous red puppy grow into a huge athletic dog, I was in love!
After finding out exactly what breed this handsome neighbour was, I began spending many hours researching and deciding if we were cut out to handle 'big dog' ownership.
It took me 2 years to convince Josh that he should let me have one.
A further 18 months later and with a bit of luck on our side we found our first Dogue. In 2005, 'Chief' came to us from a respected local breeder, he has beautiful bloodlines and the sweetest temperament anyone could ever ask for.
We were hooked...
We were once told that Bordeaux's are more addictive than chocolate! They were right!!!!!!!!
After 12 months we decided that 'Chief' needed a play mate. It was suggested by a family member involved in Dog Showing that we consider our next dog to be a show dog. We attended a few shows and were bitten by the bug.
Again, I went back to my research, studing bloodlines, dogs overseas and locally and spending hours on the phone talking with different breeders. I put my name down with breeders for a few different litters and then began what I thought was going to be a very long wait.
Luck was on our side again. A few short months later at the end of 2006, 'Stella' came into our lives. She is from a highly regarded Australian kennel, has an enviable pedigree, beautifully constructed parents, she was everything I was hoping for.
'Stella' has since proven her worth and you can read more about her on her own page.
The future...
With an eagerness to learn more, I jetted off to Europe in 2007 to see the biggest Specialty Show for Bordeaux's in the world, "The French Clubmatch."
On this trip, I had the opportunity to visit many notable kennels in France and greater Europe.
To have an opportunity to witness great quality and correct type Dogues and to talk with their breeders on aspects of bloodlines, structure, health, problems and their future plans was a valuable experience like no other.
2008, will see Josh and myself travel back to Europe to the French Clubmatch and hopefully to visit some other kennels to expand our knowledge and gain further insight on the breed and its' future progress in Europe.
We have enjoyed sharing our lives with this magnificent breed, as we have discovered they turn heads everywhere you go!!!!
We have learnt a lot over the past few years and discovered that the more you
learn, opens another new path where more knowledge can be gained.
We endeavour to learn as much as we can and always keep an open mind.
I hope we can successfully continue to uphold and improve the good reputation and quality of this magnificent dog.
